What's a Pi?ata?
Pi?atas have been used for hundreds of years in Latin America to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays and Christmas.
Pi?atas (pronounced pin-yah-tas) are now popular all over the world for almost any occasion. They are made from papier-mach? or cardboard, which you fill with sweets, balloons and small toys. The pi?ata is hung by a rope from a tree or suitable point.
The game is to take turns (while blindfolded) to hit the pi?ata with a stick to break it open. Once you have succeeded in breaking it open, the pi?ata will release its contents and then it's a mad dash for everyone to see how many goodies they can pick up.
